Growing up with Goodness!

Yogurt and fromage frais are fresh dairy products which means they contain some dairy ingredients such as milk which provides Calcium ; their texture and taste might be different depending on their proteins, fat content or milk origin.

Both of them are made from milk which is coagulated and fermented by lactic bacterial starter cultures.

In the UK, the code of practice** defines “fromage frais” as “drained / separated to partially remove the whey or aqueous phase” whereas it is not the case for yogurt, where no separation occurs.

Consequently, for fromage frais, protein and calcium are naturally concentrated and therefore higher than in yogurt.

In general, we need 2 to 3 times more milk to produce fromage frais compared to yogurt.

Did you know?

90% of our Peak Bone Mass is determined by the time we are around 18 years old
Did you know that in adulthood, we begin to lose more calcium from our bones than we can replace? The more calcium bone mass we can develop during childhood, the less likely it is that bones will become fragile.
That’s why it’s essential that you take care of your child’s bones when they’re young.

The Importance of Calcium!

Calcium is essential because it gives strength to bones and teeth. Since our bodies can’t make calcium, it is important that children get enough in their diet.

An easy way to meet the recommended calcium intake

3 dairy portions a day.

A glass of milk, a piece of cheddar-type cheese and 1 big pot of Petits Filous fromage frais provides children with their daily calcium needs.

The importance of Vitamin D!

Yogurts and fromage frais contain calcium, but not all of them have vitamin D, which helps absorb calcium.

Vitamin D is necessary to help the body absorb calcium from food. Direct sunlight is the main source of Vitamin D when the body is exposed daily, but it can be difficult for kids to synthesise enough, particularly if they spend lots of time indoors and during winter. So, children also need to obtain it through their diet.
